BII launches new beer and cellar management qualification
23-Mar-2004
The British Institute of Innkeeping’s (BII) awarding body, BIIAB, today launched it’s brand new beer and cellar management qualification – the Award in Beer and Cellar Quality (ABCQ).
The ABCQ offers licensees, managers and their staff industry agreed standards of how to keep beers in good condition and then sell and serve the perfect pint, taking them through the process from cellar to glass.
It is the only nationally recognised qualification of its kind in the licensed hospitality industry and can be run in-outlet or as part of an in-house induction programme through a pub company. It takes a single day to complete and costs just £10 per certificate, making it both accessible and affordable for today's busy licensees.
Rees Ruchat, Operations Manager at the BII, said: "This new, hands-on training programme has been designed to offer businesses the flexibility to customise their training, whilst ensuring quality is achieved.
"The ABCQ appeals to the full range of operations where beers are sold, including bars, pubs, hotels, restaurants and clubs, and provides valuable insights into how to optimise quality, profitability and safety through managing storage and dispense of beer products."
As part of the development process of the ABCQ, BIIAB has been in consultation with representatives from the brewing industry and beer quality initiative Cask Marque to ensure a common standard for the dispense of all brands and the syllabus for the qualification has also been approved by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA).
