BII Supports Wandsworth Licensing Act Conference
15-Oct-2008
On Monday 20th October, Wandsworth Council is hosting a conference to examine the impact and effects of the Licensing Act 2003 three years on. The event is being supported by BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector, and will take place at the Civic Suite, Wandsworth High Street, London SW18, between 1pm and 5pm.
The conference is aimed at licensees and designated premises supervisors operating within the Borough of Wandsworth. It will also be of great interest to others involved with the alcohol industry including licensing solicitors, police, enforcement officers, licensing committee members and other stakeholders.
A panel of influential speakers will discuss the following key questions:
-
Has the Act led to an increase in binge drinking and alcohol-related crime?
-
What progress has the Government made towards its objective of a safe and sensible drinking culture?
-
What has been the effect on the licensed trade in Wandsworth?
Speakers include Tobias Ellwood MP, Shadow Minister for Culture Media and Sport; Stewart Low, Borough Commander for the Metropolitan Police; Councillor Stewart Finn, Chairman of the Licensing Committee; and representatives from The British Beer and Pub Association, Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers and the Gambling Commission among others.
They will be supported by an exhibition of key industry stakeholders including BII, The Portman Group, licensing officers (who will provide assistance on completing applications), trading standards officers (with information on age related sales including free posters and refusal books) and the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority.
The event is free to attend and tickets are available from Julie Hopkins on 0208 871 7966 or licensing@wandsworth.gov.uk
