BII Announce ‘Bill Hannon’ Award Winner 2004

The British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) today presented the ‘Bill Hannon’ Award 2004 to long-serving Institute member and Thames Valley Region Secretary Marcus Harborne FBII.

The award was made at the BII Annual Luncheon, sponsored by Sky, at London’s  Grosvenor House Hotel.

The ‘Bill Hannon’ Award was created following the death of Bill Hannon, Chairman of the SFI Group PLC in 1995 and serves as a permanent memorial to a man who had a huge influence on the industry.

The award recognises the hard work and dedication of those who volunteer for the Institute at a local level. Without the support of these people the BII would not be the force it is in today’s industry.

This year's award goes to Marcus Harborne FBII, who has been a Fellow of the British Institute of Innkeeping since 1993 and, as well as being a long-standing and well-respected trainer, has been extremely proactive in his role as Secretary for the BII's Thames Valley Regional Council.

While much of his work is behind the scenes, he supplies his time, enthusiasm and ideas without stint.

Most recently, he has put a huge amount of effort into writing and producing the region’s groundbreaking newsletter which goes out quarterly to members.

John McNamara, the BII's Chief Executive, said: "I am delighted that Marcus's efforts have been rewarded with this year's Bill Hannon Award. He is representative of the enormous efforts that go on behind the scenes to make the Institute what it is. Without this kind of dedication we would certainly not be the force we are in today's industry."
