Southampton man is highly commended in the BII 2001 NITAs held in association with the Morning Advertiser

Roger Francis FBII.tp, of Southampton, has been highly commended in the Award for the Trainer of the Year category of the BII 2001 NITAs (Rewarding Training Excellence in Licensed Retailing) held in association with the licensed retail newspaper, Morning Advertiser. Roger is operations and human resources director of recently established pub operator, Mayday Inns, which is based in Paris, France. The company itself was also highly commended in the Supreme Award for the Best Overall Training Programme for Managed Estates category of the competition.

The winners were announced today at a prestigious awards ceremony that took place at the Café Royal, London, in front of an audience of high profile industry guests. The awards are run by the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) and aim to recognise those at the pinnacle of training for the on-licensed retail sector. A full list of winners and finalists is enclosed.

There are eight categories in the BII 2001 NITAs catering for all pub retail companies, both large and small, as well as individual licensees and training organisations. This year also saw the introduction of a new category that reflects the demand for social responsibility within the on-licensed retail sector. The judges of the competition were looking for evidence that training objectives and outcomes were achieved by maximising the use of resources available.
